Mr Kope Kganakga, Chief Executive Officer

Mr Kganakga, 33, is a naturally talented entrepreneur of note with vast experience within the ICT, Construction and Finance industries, spanning the African continent. At the tender age of nineteen (19) he was a key member of the consulting team that successfully established and constructed the mobile telephony network for MTN Nigeria; the largest communications market on the continent.

Mr Kganakga has also served as a key member of the team that undertook the establishment of the amalgamated switching company in Nigeria that seamlessly consolidated over ninety seven (97) different banks and financial institutions, into an orderly and more vibrant but harmonious forty (40) banks and financial institutions.

He brings to Afrisat his 14 years of entrepreneurial expertise that include, project management, project preparation and facilitation, business consulting and negotiation, corporate financing, board Administration and support, product and service Delivery, financial, risk and facilities management, human resource management, community and public relations. Mr Kganakga has gained valuable experience interacting and managing strategic relations at a global scale. He has witnessed first-hand the vibrancy of the immense opportunities on the continent.

Mr Amunga Andanje, Chief Technical Officer

Mr Amunga Andanje, 54, is a qualified Civil Engineer with thirty (30) years of international working experience spanning the African continent. His focus comprises project proposal conceptualisation, feasibility studies, project preparation till financial closure, detailed due diligence, engineering project management, detailed engineering designs, planning, contract administration and site supervision of numerous engineering infrastructure projects.

Mr Andanje brings to Afrisat Pty Ltd, a wealth of practical hands-on project technical experience, and an encyclopaedia of valuable contacts that enrich and enhance real project opportunities on the continent. Born in Kenya, in East Africa, and now a naturalised South African, he is an effective bridge builder between the leadership role that South Africa is undertaking towards the development of the continent, and the rest of the continent itself that teems with endless untapped opportunities. His most recent engagement with the Development Bank of Southern Africa, from 2007 till before joining Afrisat Pty Ltd, accorded him a vantage point upon which to sharpen his positive view of development aspects of the continent, but also to witness first-hand the proactive risk management.

He is a full member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a registered graduate engineer of the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya, and has an application with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) under process.

Mr Ibini-Bini Mara, Chief Operations Officer

Mr Ibini-Bini Mara, 53, is an Associate Member of the South African Institute of Planning (SAPI) and Member of Leadership in Environment and Development (LEAD). He brings close to two decades of solid experience in the sustainable development arena to AfriSat Investments Ltd.

A holder of two Masters of Science (M.Sc.) degrees; in Development Planning from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa and in Geography from the University of Lubumbashi, D.R. Congo; Mr Mara has an all-round and well-grounded understanding of integrated sustainable development that is geared towards poverty eradication utilising self-financing innovative solutions. He has completed important short courses which include Advanced Indicator Development, and Outcomes-Based Monitoring and Evaluation; Management and Research in Population-Environment and Development Nexus; Advanced Project Management for Managers; Intermediary Project Management, Professional Business Writing and Communication Skills; Management of Mining and Minerals Policy; Local Government Budget and Finance; and Advanced Change Management.

Mr Mara has strong experience with Development Financing Institutions that include the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), South African Government Departments of Housing; Social Development; and Trade and Industry; the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA); the Austrian Government; the British Government’s DFID; and the World Bank. He has managed programmes that interface Third Party Funds between government and donors for the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), Water Demand Management (WDM), Sustainable Development Initiatives in Africa (SDI), Southern Africa and East Africa Energy and Environment Programme (EEP-SEA), and the Renewable Energy Market Transformation (REMT).

Mr Mara has played a significant role in promoting and accelerating the broad-based participation and sustainable socioeconomic development for the alleviation of poverty, unemployment and inequality in the SADC Region. He has established processes and systems for the smooth running of Programmes and Project Management Units (PMUs), and Management of Project Implementation Units (PIU). Through his technical support, most of these PIUs have become self-running Agencies with fully self-sustained funds. His experience in building and maintaining strong and inclusive partnerships with stakeholders have been critical in advancing Afrisat’s Pan-African development agenda. Ibini has established a dependable network in Southern Africa and beyond that supports Sustainable Communities Programme Managers in achieving their programme objectives on Socio-Economic, Developmental Planning and Environmental Processes.

Mr Mathanda Mathenjwa, Executive Chair and Finance

Mr Mathanda Mathenjwa, 45, holds a Bachelor in Commerce degree and a post-graduate Diploma in Municipal Governance. He has over twenty three (23) years professional, rich and varied working experience. His career spans from the manufacturing sector, water services, community development, consulting, and capacity building and infrastructure development.

He is an expert on infrastructure development finance, management of infrastructure and service delivery execution at large scale. He is highly skilled in risk management, financial management, strategic planning and execution, project management, management consulting and negotiation. Mr Mathenjwa has played a significant in the development and management of Task Force commissioned by the Government of South Africa to recruit and deploy technical expertise at local government level to accelerate infrastructure development and service delivery improvement. He has served at various Board,  Sub Committees and Management Committees Structures at a functional and advisory capacity in numerous government and non-governmental levels. In his capacity as director, he has gained valuable experience interacting and managing strategic relations at a global scale.
